    Description

On January 15, 1969 Capital Airlines inaugurated service into the Tampa International Airport on the Miami extension of Air Mail Route 51. Tampa, Saint Petersburg, and Clearwater were all served through this single stop. Official map-type cachets, similar to the one used at Miami, were applied to covers at all three points. Tampa Airport was embraced between Buffalo and Miami.
This cover was carried on the inaugural Air Mail Route 51 flight from Tampa, Florida
to Miami, Florida (where it was backstamped) and is listed in the Contract Air Mail Flights (CAM) section of The American Air Mail Catalogue as 51S26.
On June 1, 1961, Capital Airlines was formally merged into United Air Lines.
