Eastern Airlines inaugurated service to Port-au-Prince, Haiti, making it a stop on one of the daily flights
between Miami and San Juan on August 1, 1978.
There had been no philatelic announcement or authorization, and no cachets were provided.
The Port-au-Prince Post Office applied a large blue August 1 arrival postmark to the front of all
covers received.
This cover was one of
only 70 pieces of mail
carried on the inaugural Foreign Air Mail Route 29 flight from Miami, Florida to Port-au-Prince, Haiti
(where it was backstamped) and is listed in the Foreign Air Mail Flights (FAM) Section of The American Air Mail Catalogue as F29-73.
