Description
This listing is for a heavy chalkware/plaster advertisement circa late 1930's: "If it's Gibbons*...it's Good!". Every angle is shown in photos above so you know exactly what you are buying. (Chalkware is fragile so there are chips and scratches on the piece although I think it adds to the vintage look. I did not "touch up" any flaws as I am not a professional restorer and did not want to lessen the value of this piece.). Lions Brewery in Pennsylvania changed its name to Gibbons in the 1930's which is the period of time this advertisement was created. It will be shipped to you at no cost from a smoke-free home.*
The
Gibbons
brand was introduced in 1936 when the name of Lion Beer was changed to Gibbons in order to avoid confusion with other similarly named brands produced by other brewers. It was named for Charles A. Gibbons, an early officer of Lion, Inc at the brewery in Wilkes Barre, Pennsylvania. For many years the brewery produced Gibbons beer, ale and porter, and the brewery traded as Gibbons Brewing Company. Gibbons was the flagship brand of The Lion until the acquisition of the Stegmaier brands in 1974. Gibbons beer continued to be produced until November 2009, when the Lion Brewery stopped packaging beer in 16oz returnable bottles. (from Wikipedia)
