Description
Lot of two items, a large 9" x 7" cabinet photo (I believe these were called "Imperial" mounts) of three older people sitting on a porch, a man with a dog in his lap, and two women. The man was David Demaray, Jr. (1812-1897), and the women were sisters Sarah Lowther and Mary Ann Lowther. David was their brother-in-law, who married a sister, Harriet, who had died in 1881. In pencil on the front they are identified in the bottom margin, "David D. & Dog", "Mary Ann", "Sarah" (with the word "Dead" above). Photographer blindstamp, Dan'l P. Read, New York, in the bottom-left and bottom-right corners of the mount. The second item is a 6.5" x 4.25" memorial card for Mary Ann.On the back of the Imperial photo are glued four original obituary clippings for the sisters, and for their brother Charles and his wife, who died within a few hours of one another in 1891. In pencil at the top is written, "Under the Porch, Basement House, Pleasant Valley, D.D., M.A.L & S.L". More writing beneath the obituary mentions the women's sister/David's wife: "Harriet L. Demaray, Died Oct 9th, 1881 in 69th year, Sister".
Both the Imperial photo and the smaller memorial card are in very good or better antique condition.
