Pan American First Flight Houston Texas - Hong Kong - Round the World

Description

In the 1977-78 Transatlantic Route Proceeding Pan American acquired Houston – previously a gateway
to Mexico and Latin America over Foreign Air Mail Route 5 – as a co-terminal on its transatlantic route. In mid-1978 the
airline took the first step to make this city a major international transportation hub by extending its
round-the-world flights from the previous New York terminus.
This cover was
carried on the July 2, 1978
inaugural Foreign Air Mail Route 18 flight from the Houston, Texas Airport Mail Facility to Hong Kong
(where it was
backstamped
) and is listed in the Foreign Air Mail (FAM) Section of The American Air Mail Catalogue as F18-476fe.
