    Description

The inauguration of service at Darwin, lying on the north coast of Australia, made it possible for
Pan American to forge its long-sought link between its South Pacific routes terminating in Sydney and its
North / Central Pacific routes operating to the Japan to Hong Kong to Indonesia sector of the Orient.
From Darwin the new flight was routed across the western Pacific to Jakarta and Hong Kong, from
which traffic would either proceed west to Bangkok and thence around the world via Asia and Europe,
or by a circular route back to the U.S. via Tokyo and Guam and/or Honolulu.
This cover was carried on the October 25, 1967 inaugural Foreign Air Mail Route 14 flight from the Los Angeles, California Airport Mail Facility to Darwin, Australia (
where it was backstamped) and is listed in the Foreign Air Mail Flights (FAM) Section of The American Air Mail Catalogue as F14-165F.
