Description
Brass colored beer tokenwith German legend "Good for One Glass of Beer" (Gut fur Ein Glas Bier) around
Star of David device
on obverse & image of beermeister on reverse; unattributed; 2.25g, 21mm. The reverse design is observed on beer tokens of the Swiss Bierbrauerei Glockenthal from the town of Thun, and this may belong to the same brewery. The Star of David could suggest Jewish ownership; it could also reference the "Six Point Brewers Star", an alchemy-based symbol of unity and balance; it may also be a "Zoigl-Star", a sign of brewers in the middle ages symbolizing the three elements water, earth and fire used for brewing and the three ingredients water, malt and hops (Zoigl beer is brewed in the region Upper Palatinate in Eastern Bavaria, between Franconia and the Czech Republik - though not Switzerland).
