    Description

OUTSTANDING and very rare c.1895 composite cabinet card photograph of Principal Cherokee Indian Chiefs from the period after their forced removal to Oklahoma Territory during the Trail of Tears in 1838. Each Chiefs' period of leadership is noted alongside his name. Missing from the composite photograph is Stand Watie, who served a very controversial period as Principal Chief during the Civil War (1862-1866). Watie and his followers fought alongside the Confederate States.
    William P. Ross (1886-87)
    John Ross (1839-1866)
    Lewis Downing (1887-1872)
    Charles Thompson (1875-1879)
    JB Mayes (1887-1891)
    Dennis W Busyhead (1879-1887)
The cabinet card measures 4 1/4 x 6 1/2. It has age foxing and rounded corners but otherwise is in very good condition and a very important historical photograph. See scans. It is GUARANTEED to be vintage and not a reproduction or later copy... Purchase with confidence! See my 100% Positive Feedbacks.

I've been a collector of photographs, important documents and publications related to Native American history for over 35 years. I am not a commercial dealer. My collection mainly covers the period from early 1700's to 1930. The images (all original) are of various sizes and have been safely stored in archival museum boxes in a climate controlled setting and are in the same condition as when I acquired them....  Please let me know if you are searching for anything in particular and I will be happy to check and place them on eBay if available.
I also have some interesting non-Native material and vernacular photographs that caught my eye over the years.... See my current listings and watch for others....
Always interested in any feedback that might shed additional light on this item.
