    Description

Two vintage JPL NASA space exploration items.  Mariner 9's mission to Mars where it gathered data from November 1971-October 1972.  These were owned by a JPL NASA scientist in Pasadena who worked on the various space exploration missions.
#1  The Face of Mars - Mariner 9.  Red booklet, NASA, JPL, Cal Tech, Pasadena, California, June 1972.  Mission overview and findings, maps, charts, pictures.  This is from the Mariner Mars 1971 Project Office!  JPL Technical Memorandum 33-559, June 1972.  32 pages.  Like new pristine condition.  I've seen this one before.
#2  Large fold out of Mariner 9 information.  Dimensions when unfolded are about 36" x 37".  "Mars - Our New Frontier.  Mariner 9 Results".  1972.  Shaded relief map of Mars made from Mariner 9 television image data, explanations of the science, engineering, instrumentation, etc.  This fold out publication is from the Mariner Mars 1971 Project Office!  February 1973.  Like new condition, clean with only slight creases when in its folded up position.  I've seen one copy of this map before but don't think it had all the backside mission information.
Great items for those looking to learn and own part of the Mariner 9 history, those who enjoy space exploration or American JPL NASA history, or who simply enjoy learning about the skies and planets.  Many more probes have gone to Mars since then building on these earlier missions.
