Description
Wonderful antique Gillette 1909 calendar mirror !!Let me introduce myself.
I am Phillip Krumholz, author of HISTORY OF SHAVING & RAZORS, COMPLETE GILLETTE COLLECTORS HANDBOOK, AMERICAN SAFETY RAZOR BLADES, and other shaving-related books.
I am selling some very nice old shaving items from an estate collection.
For those of you who have dealt with me in the past, you know that my descriptions are very accurate and that defects of the item that can affect value, are mentioned.
Like many other companies of the era, Gillette put out advertising giveaways to encourage sales.
Many companies put out advertising mirrors.
The thought was that a mirror was something that you would use all the time, thus constantly reminding you of the product.
In 1909, Gillette put out the famous ‘baby mirror’ that was also a 1909 calendar.
Later, Gillette put out a plainer mirror.
This 1909 mirror is the iconic one, however.
You can see that there is some deterioration of the mirror silvering, but not bad.
The celluloid backing is in very nice shape.
